Gerard Coughlin

Managing Partner

Gerry is the Managing Partner of Oakpoint Advisors. Prior to founding Oakpoint Advisors in 2009, he spent his entire career at Morgan Stanley. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1989 in the Equity Controllers group, working in New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong. He established Morgan Stanley's equity trading and sales trading for Southeast Asia in Singapore, before moving to Hong Kong in 1999 to run regional sales trading, and ultimately assuming responsibility for Asia distribution globally. Gerry returned to New York in 2004 as a member of the Prime Brokerage Executive Committee, where he assumed responsibility for Capital Introductions and Business Consulting. In 2006, Gerry was named Global Head of Sales where he was responsible for overall coverage of the firm's prime brokerage clients as well as any new business. In early 2012, he stepped away from day to day management of Oakpoint and became President of Vinik Asset Management, a multi-billion dollar equity long/short fund. In that capacity, Gerry was charged with restructuring the entire infrastructure of Vinik Asset Management and ensuring the firm met all standards of "best practices". He was directly responsible for Finance, Marketing, Operations, Trading and Technology at Vinik as was one of five members of the Management Committee. Gerry returned full time to Oakpoint in July of 2013 and assumed the role of Managing Partner. He holds a BS in Finance with honors from Northeastern University.

Charlie Hardwick


Charlie is a Partner at Oakpoint Advisors. He originally joined Oakpoint Advisors at inception and rejoined the firm in July 2013. Prior to rejoining Oakpoint, Charlie was Head of Marketing and Investor Relations at Vinik Asset Management, a multi-billion dollar long/short equity fund. Prior to joining Oakpoint, Charlie was Head of Client Service and Marketing at Winston Partners, a long/short equity fund of funds. Before Winston Partners, he was a Senior Vice President at Maymont Partners, where he formed and operated the West Coast marketing arm. For five years beginning in 1998, Charlie was a Vice President in Corporate Finance at Lehman Brothers and previously was in the merger & acquisition departments at Barclays, deZoete Wedd and Houlihan Lokey. Charlie has a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Charlie is a FINRA registered series 7 and 63.

Chris Capozzalo


Chris is a Partner and Chief Operating Officer at Oakpoint Advisors and has been with the firm since 2009. Prior to joining Oakpoint, Chris served as Vice President at Citigroup as a Structurer for the Prime Brokerage and Equity Derivatives groups. Before his 3 years at Citigroup, he worked at Amaranth Advisors LLC as a member of their Treasury and Portfolio Finance department. During his 4 years at Amaranth Chris contributed to the build out and development of Amaranth's middle office. With the Treasury and Portfolio Finance team Chris reduced financing costs and collateral usage through swaps, securities loans, repurchase agreements, strategic asset allocation and hedging techniques at various custodians and broker dealers. He started his career at Morgan Stanley and has a BA in Finance from Pace University. Chris is FINRA registered series 7 and 63.

Michael O'Neill


Michael is a Partner at Oakpoint Advisors. Prior to joining Oakpoint, Michael was a Managing Director at Guggenheim Partners in Chicago where he marketed the firm's products and services to family offices. Prior to Guggenheim Partners, Michael Co-Founded First Street Capital Partners where he provided marketing consulting services and raised assets for alternative investment managers. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President and Head of Sales at Calamos Investments where he was responsible for intermediary distribution. Prior to his work in financial services, Michael played professional hockey for 12 years. He received a BA in Economics and Political Science from Yale University and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Michael is FINRA registered series 7, 63, 65, and 24.

Patrick Mermagen

Prior to joining Oakpoint Advisors in 2014, Patrick was a Director at SAC Capital in Stamford, CT where he was involved in marketing and relationship management for US and European investors. Before joining SAC Capital in 2008, Patrick was a Director in the client management group of Drake Management, a fixed income and macro hedge fund manager based in New York.  Previously, he was a director of equity and debt capital markets at UBS for 10 years where he worked in London, New York and Tokyo. He was awarded the CFA designation in 2005 and the CAIA designation in 2007. He has a B.Sc. in Economics from Bristol University in the UK.

Shea Spade


Shea is an analyst at Oakpoint Advisors. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Shea worked at Franklin Templeton Investments as a business analyst. She previously worked in the Finance and Accounting department for the Tampa Bay Lightning after graduating from the University of South Florida with a BS in Finance.

Michael Counihan


Michael is an analyst at Oakpoint Advisors and joined the firm in 2014.
